Software Engineer, Security - Mountain View

Google's Software Engineers develop the next-generation technologies for which we've become world-renowned. In addition to revolutionizing search technology, we use our world-class programming skills to innovate in a number of other areas as well. Our projects include working on advanced information-retrieval algorithms, massive scalability and storage solutions, and large-scale applications that enrich the user experience. We also work extensively on networking systems, advertising systems and complex transaction systems in consumer applications.

The role: Software Engineer, Security

You are a skilled software engineer who enjoys security work and is an expert in systems security, applications security, cryptography, or network security. In this role, you will be analyzing software designs and implementations from a security perspective, and discovering subtle security issues that appear under unexpected threat scenarios. You are a security researcher who thrives on addressing real world problems and likes to code.

You will focus on security for all components of our systems, including client devices, networking equipment and server infrastructure, with an emphasis on threats from all sources.

Responsibilities:

• Invention, Application, and Operation of advanced security techniques
• Developing advanced cryptographic systems

Requirements:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience (PhD a plus).
• Several years of experience designing and implementing software systems, preferably in Java, C or C++ (Python experience a plus).
• Strong expertise in applications security, cryptography, network security, or systems security.
• Significant experience in platform-level vulnerability hardening or testing (Linux preferred). Experience with security auditing / risk assessments a plus.
• Knowledge of techniques, standards, and state of the art capabilities for Authentication/Authorization/Use of Cryptographic Systems
• Interest and experience in all aspects of computer and network security Entire lifecycle from programming, operations, use (including user experience)
• Interest in both evolutionary and breakthrough security research and development is preferred. Experience designing security solutions for operating systems and distributed systems.
