Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of gold alloys as a material for construction elements in dental technology.
- construction elements such as attachments or joints.
- construction elements are mostly offered in prefabricated form today. Due to the individual problem cases, a variety of different designs exist. Already in 1989 there were about 290 different systems on the market. A large number of different alloys based on precious metals are used to manufacture them.
- these construction elements are very complex to manufacture. This is due to the smallness of the parts, which is paired with complicated geometries and tight tolerances in order to withstand the high demands in clinical use.
- high-strength alloys must be used, which generally show difficult forming behavior due to the high hardness. Usually only alloys are used which have hardnesses of over 200 HV and yield strengths of more than 450 MPa.
- the construction elements can be attached to the prosthesis parts by soldering or by casting the dental alloy directly onto the construction element. Alloys that do not contain non-noble metals are required for these structural elements, so that when preheating before the sprue there is no disruptive oxide layer that would prevent a material connection between the structural element and the dental alloy. These alloys are mostly based on gold-platinum-palladium or platinum-iridium. Particularly high-strength alloys of this type are described, for example, in DE-PS 35 42 641.
- This object is achieved according to the invention by using gold alloys with 1.2 to 2.3% by weight of titanium, the rest being gold.
- Alloys containing 1.6 to 1.8% by weight of titanium and the rest of gold are preferably used.
- alloys can be produced on a gold basis with titanium additions of 1.2 to 2.3% by weight, which have a significantly more favorable forming and corrosion behavior than the previously known alloys for construction elements.
- the high reactivity of the element titanium can be mastered by melting under protective gas in suitable crucibles.
- Table 1 lists three yellow alloys of the conventional alloy type (alloys 1 to 3) in addition to some alloys according to the invention (alloys 4 to 6). The associated mechanical characteristics can be found in Table 2.

- HV-W Vickers hardness in the soft state (quenched in water)
- Rp-H yield point in the hard state
- AH ductility for hard condition in tensile test (technical elongation)
- AW ductility for soft condition in tensile test (technical elongation).
- the alloys according to the invention show significantly better values in the soft-annealed state.
- the hardness values can be reduced much more, sometimes to only about a third of the values that conventional alloys have. This is accompanied by a strong lowering of the yield point and a massive increase in ductility to values of approx. 60%. Both the increase in ductility and the significant reduction in hardness and yield point lead to a marked improvement in the forming behavior. Due to the higher ductility, higher degrees of forming and a reduction in the number of intermediate anneals can be achieved, and due to the lower strength, lower forming forces are required.
- Table 3 shows the characteristic data for corrosion resistance.
- the corrosion resistance was determined in accordance with DIN E 13927 in a one-week immersion test in 0.1 molar lactic acid saline solution on the basis of the released corrosion products.
- Table 3 lists the sum of the corrosion products released per cm 2 of sample surface.
- the investigations were carried out once on samples with fresh ground surface and once on samples that were subsequently subjected to a tempering treatment. An aging of 1 hour at 500 ° C in air was chosen as the treatment.
- the alloys according to the invention achieve the highest strengths in this heat treatment. It is therefore advisable to carry out such a treatment after the last shaping.
Abstract
